What is A Guardian Home?

How does this work?

How Do I Join The Gaurdian Home Program?

At Oodles of Poodles, we are dedicated to breeding healthy and happy Standard Poodles & Labradoodles that bring joy to families. Our commitment goes beyond just breeding; we believe in finding loving guardian homes for our dogs.

Being a guardian home for Oodles of Poodles is an excellent opportunity to have the Breeder's pick of the litter as a pet.  In exchange for providing a home for an Oodles of Poodles breeding dog & partnering with us while the dog is part of our breeding program, you will receive an amazing family dog at no cost.

We strongly believe that EVERY dog deserves a loving forever family.  We are not a kennel breeder and believe dogs do best in loving families.

We take pride in our responsible breeding practices and the well-being of our Standard Poodles & Labradoodles is always our top priority.

This is why ALL breeding dogs in our Guardian Home Program will go through initial DNA testing at six months of age.  At 24 months of age OFA Hips and Elbows, ACVO Eye examination, & Elective health testing such as Advanced Cardiac examinations & Autoimmune Thyroditis Evaluation.

All testing mentioned above is paid for at the breeder's expense.  The responsibility and cost of travel to the breeder's veterinarian for testing is at Gaurdian Homes expense.

At six months of age Oodles of Poodles does begin the CKC registration process for all breeding dogs placed in guardian homes. This means we will need up-to-date photographs that follow CKC requirements. Guardian Homes may take these photographs & send them to the breeder or travel at their expense to Oodles of Poodles for the breeder to take photographs.

Female dogs go into heat approximately every six months. We do not breed before 24 months of age. Depending on the Oodles of Poodles breeding schedule the breeding female may skip two cycles vs. one cycle between breedings.

From the time breeding (or potentially 2 weeks before whelping) takes place to puppies being weaned & old enough to be separated from their mom at 8 weeks old, female dogs will be housed with the breeder or occasionally another trusted & qualified individual to whelp & raise her puppies.  This means females in our breeding program will spend a minimum of three and a half months with the breeder through the breeding, whelping, raising & weaning puppies stages.   When puppies are weaned & old enough to be separated from their mom at 8 weeks old, female dogs will be returned to their Guardian Home.

We only breed our females a maximum of four times retiring them no later than 7 years of age.   Once female dogs in our Guardian Home Program are retired they are spayed at the breeder's expense & ownership will be transferred to the Guardian.

Males are active in the Oodles of Poodles Breeding Program from ages 2 - 7.  Guardian homes must be available potentially on 72-hour short notice, the breeder will always attempt to plan out Stud services though there are times when female heat cycles are not on schedule.   When males are needed for Stud services they will be housed with the breeder for 72 hours for breeding.

We only breed our males a maximum of twice a year, retiring them no later than 7 years of age.  Once males in our Guardian Home Program are retired they are neutered at the breeder's expense & ownership will be transferred to the Guardian.

Travel and travel costs to Oodles of Poodles are the responsibility of the Guardian Home for both males & females.

To be considered for a potential Guardian Home for any of our puppies we require three references to be provided on our application.  We MUST hear back from all three references within 7 days of your application being submitted, otherwise, it will result in a denial.
